Why Do We Freak Out Over Dylan Mulvaney, But We’re Fine With Madea and Dame Edna?
What’s the difference?
Two things popped up in my newsfeed this morning that seemed weirdly related and perfectly timed.
One was an article revealing that Barry Humphries (Dame Edna) has died at the age of 89.
And next to it, an article announcing that the Bud Light marketing VP behind the Dylan Mulvaney campaign, Alissa Heinerscheid, was “taking a leave of absence”, which is of course code for “fired.”
I do have a little bit of a problem with this line from the article, which I can only assume was written in jest:
… many prominent Americans [emphasis added] voicing their opposition [to the campaign], including Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R., Texas), Kid Rock, and Travis Tritt.
If this were 1995, sure. Now? Not so much.
And why any news outlet anywhere ever turns to Caitlyn Jenner (who is on a mission to be the only transgender spokesperson in America) for her input is a complete mystery to me.
Of course, not really, since she can be counted on for a good old-fashioned pot stirring.
Most disturbingly, this article in Newsweek makes it extremely clear how much of the “controversy” is fed by people…
