What Does ‘Popular On Medium’ Mean and Does It Matter To Your Earnings?

Every time I see that microscopic tag POPULAR ON MEDIUM beneath a story that’s popped up in my feed, I do what any normal internet-addicted person does.

I click on it.

What’s the story about? Don’t care. I click because FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out, geezers). Why is it popular? How popular is it? Inquiring minds want to know!

So I open it up, glance at whatever it is, and go straight to the claps and comments at the bottom.

Most of these stories have proportionately few claps, maybe a few comments.

Explain to me how that’s ‘Popular on Medium’?

I’ve had stories tagged Popular on Medium maybe three times. Did it make any difference?

Yes. It made a huge difference in my earnings because of the aforementioned FOMO and the herd mentality of all platform users. And by huge difference, I mean thousands of dollars.

This is not an in-depth analysis of Medium based on anything like facts or data or stuff you can look up. This is just my opinion. I leave all the numbers stuff to J.J. Pryor.
