IN MY OPINION

We Don’t Need Self-Driving Cars, We Need Cars That Protect Us From Ourselves

Actress Anne Heche reportedly drove into the garage of an apartment building, fled the scene, and then crashed into a house, setting it on fire and suffering burns severe enough that she needed to be intubated.

The immediate assumption is that she was drunk, particularly given her history. It’s just a fact that if you’re in the entertainment industry, everybody knows your dirty laundry.

That’s the trade-off — you can either be in the movies, or you can have privacy. You can’t have both.

Even more horrifying is the accident that occurred the day before at the intersection of La Brea and Slauson in Los Angeles:

If Anne Heche or the 40-year-old nurse who killed six people (including an unborn child) was drunk, what could have prevented these horrific accidents?

The answer is an in-car breathalyzer.

Every single one of our DUI clients is ordered to install an ignition interlock device…
