TECHNOLOGY

We Don’t Appreciate Technology Enough

I’ll be first in line to buy a robot

You can buy this on eBay.

The press like to foment fear and hysteria. This is nothing new.

If it bleeds, it leads.

In today’s world, that means tirades about the evils of AI and how children are in danger because they’re falling in love with chatbots.

This isn’t something our pioneer ancestors had to worry about. They were too busy building sod houses and gnawing on a turnip while everybody around them died at the age of 34 from an abscessed tooth.

But I’m willing to bet that if they’d had the opportunity to liven up those long prairie winters by talking sexy to an online robot, they would’ve jumped at the chance.

I love technology. I want all the gadgets and the things. And if they talk back to me, all the better.

I don’t think young people appreciate the sheer magic of being able to ask something out loud in an empty room and having a voice just answer, out of nowhere.

I don’t have clocks in my house anymore because I can just ask the air. No matter where I am, either my phone, or my watch, or my three (four?) Amazon devices will tell me what time it is.
