Time to Start Again

Sometimes perspective is the most precious thing you can have.

It’s January 1st and I’m in a throwing away kind of mood. Or if not throwing away, at least straightening up.

Sometimes the clutter just gets to me and I snap a little bit. I’m not doing anything extreme like rearranging furniture, but I know the floor is down there somewhere and I’d like for us to get reacquainted.

The problem with having a small house is that anything I buy threatens to capsize the ship. I know it’s very trendy to have a small house because eco-friendly and small carbon footprint and other catchphrases that make my eyelid twitch.

But sometimes you have a small house because you’re poor when you’d really like to have a big, giant house, environment be damned.

My boss’s McMansion has an “art room.” I would probably call that a “closet”, or maybe even a “bedroom”. But what do I know?

They don’t make TV shows about the kind of small house I live in. One minute you’re married with three bedrooms and a two-car garage, and the next, the doorknob comes off in your hand and you have an old plastic storage container in the basement with SNAKE BUCKET written on it in black magic marker because that’s where the snakes go when you need to rehome them from your basement to…
