This Pie is Horrible, But I Paid $13 and I’m Going to Eat It

I love pie. Who doesn’t love pie?

I also love cherries. Cherries are a superfood, by which I mean, I super like to eat them. (But not too many, because, well, reasons.)

I stopped at a little farm and orchard market that I pass by every day because their sign said BLUEBERRIES, even though it seems a little late in the season and I’m not 100% sure they’re locally grown. But the five-year-old who ran my credit card assured me that they were, so.

I was also looking for half-dead flowers that might be 50% off, but no luck. So I’ll just keep watering the half-dead flowers I already have. We’ve bonded over the way we’re becoming similarly withered as the months go by.

And of course, they had pies at the market. FRESH MADE, 9-inch pies for $12.95 each.

They didn’t look great. They looked dry and over-baked.

But I saw one that was marked “black cherry” and my fate was sealed.

Now, I’m not completely clear what exactly a “black cherry” is. I know what a Bing cherry is, and a maraschino cherry, and a sour cherry. I got in…
