The department of health will give you a file if one exists. It will be redacted, but at least I'd know if I was actually adopted. I don't really care about "birth parents" and all of that. And then 23andMe would give me my genetic profile and turn up any relatives already in its database. I found out so late in the game, there was no way I was going to get saliva from her. So, I can find at least some things out. It's all such a hassle.
