My Boss Said Something That P!szed Me Off

I know — surprising, huh?

Yes, my boss says something that pisses me off on a daily basis. But this was particularly sexist and tone-deaf.

The father of a family that lived in my boss’s development (McMansions, golf course, lots of rules about shrubbery) passed away last year in his 50s. Now, the widow and their three children are living in a bad part of town.

“Something’s not right there,” my boss said. “How could that be?”

Oh. My. God.

He made it sound like it was somehow the wife’s fault that she was living in my town’s version of Cabrini-Green (which is not nearly as bad as his disdainful tone would suggest).

So, to follow his bizarre and elitist logic, the wife of a presumably well-off man should automatically continue to be well-off if her husband, her sole source of income, dies suddenly (or not. We don’t even know how he died. Maybe it was a long, drawn-out illness).

Excuse me?

I dunno, maybe he didn’t plan on dying that young and didn’t buy millions of dollars worth of life insurance like my boss did. Some people plan ahead, some don’t. This is probably the only instance of my boss ever planning ahead for something.
