It’s Dangerous To Be Alone

Bob Saget died the way a lot of us are going to die.

I’m suddenly buried in stories about people dying alone.

It started with a local judge who was found unresponsive in her home after her family and co-workers at the courthouse hasn’t heard from her for a few days.

She was reclusive and didn’t hear many cases. Her staff had learned long ago how to work around her absence.

But to go days — days — unconscious in a chair in your home. No one you talk to regularly. No one who needs you, or who you need on a daily basis.

And then this popped up on my computer, “Body of a woman found sitting at a table 2 years after her death.” Neighbors assumed she had moved away.

And then, most disturbing of all, the news that Bob Saget died of massive head trauma after an “unwitnessed fall”, presumably in his hotel room.

I can hear the conspiracy wheels turning already. How does somebody hurt themselves that badly in a hotel room? It’s carpeted. Maybe he fell in the bathroom, striking the back of his head on the toilet, or the sink, or the tub, or even on the tile floor.

The comedian was probably too dazed to think coherently or realize that he needed help. He might’ve felt okay at first. He didn’t want…
