Look, I understand religious “fanaticism”, a word that’s highly malleable depending on your point of view.

And I undertand that the separation of church and state isn’t a thing anymore. It just kind of went away without anybody really noticing or caring.

Okay, whatever. Plenty of countries are theocracies, like, say, Iran and Saudi Arabia, two sterling examples of tyranny and repression. History shows us that big forces are at work which we can’t understand or control until it’s way, way too late.

Because people are, basically, stupid. I’d say “stupid animals” but I don’t want to offend the animals.

The problem with an elective political system is that we expect said elected officials to be among the most ethical, not to mention the most intelligent, that our species has to offer, and that they’ll promote the greater good rather than their own personal bugaboos and stuff they had a dream about last night.

Unfortunately, and nobody seems to have figured this out yet, the very system of electing individuals to lead…
