I Don’t Understand The 100 Follower Rule

I don’t know much, but I know I don’t love this new rule.

So beginning January 1, 2022, you’ll need to have at least 100 followers to get behind the paywall here at Camp Medium and make your $0.10 per day anti-living wage.

Why? I have no idea. There are some other changes coming to the Medium Partner Program that I do basically understand, but why you need 100 followers is just not making any sense to moi, a very sensible person who has been tying her own shoes for many years now.

I remember — long, long ago in the Before Times — when I made my first farthings by vomiting something out on the internet.

I was paid for my writing.

That was an incredible feeling.

Money is validation.

Look, I love Medium. I want to hug it and pet it and squeeze it and call it George.

Would you like to know how much I’ve made on Vocal? Five cents. No, that’s wrong. $5.05, because they gave me $5.00 for nothing to give me an incentive to keep writing for nothing.

Ermmm…

BUT, I’m still making something, even if it’s literally pennies and I have to meet an insane view threshold before I can make…
