I Didn’t Think I’d Find Bullies On Medium

Boy, was I wrong.

I’m always fascinated by people who get bent out of shape because someone else is doing something that has nothing to do with them, that doesn’t impact them in any way, and is literally none of their business.

But of course, people like that — let’s call them bullies — always have an agenda. On social media, it’s to get eyes on their profile. Politicians like to say, “Any publicity is good publicity.” So if your schtick is to be a holier-than-thou bullying battleax, you always have to be on the lookout for a victim.

Pot-stirrers just want attention on themselves — the victim of their bullying is basically collateral damage.

I was bullied for most of my childhood. Relentlessly. Mercilessly. I was even bullied by adults. I had a bus driver who would wait until I was right in front of the bus as I crossed the street, and then he’d honk the horn. I was probably six at the time. Every school day was a living hell for many, many years.

I don’t like bullies.

Over on my beloved Twitter, users would jump on this person with both feet. Somehow I thought Medium would be different. We’re writers, for God’s sake. We’re supposed to be intelligent, thoughtful…
