Everybody Wants To Sue Somebody
It’s not that simple, guys. Or maybe it is.
One of many problems with the world today is that everybody’s out to make a fast buck.
Whose fault is that? Is it the failure of religion, which used to teach that you reaped only what you sowed? That you only got what you deserved?
Now everybody feels like they deserve everything, no work required.
Is is the fault of consumer culture? “This product lied to me and I want $5,000,000 because my macaroni and cheese wasn’t ready in 3 1/2 minutes.”
God bless America.
Is it the lawyers’ fault? Of course it’s the lawyers’ fault.
Fortunately, we don’t file civil lawsuits. We stick to crime and divorce, and let me tell you, I will take a felon over somebody getting divorced any day of the week.
But we still get the telephone calls. “Can I sue so-and-so for XYZ?”
Well, yeah. You can sue anybody for anything. People have a hard time absorbing that — anybody can file anything. It’s not the clerk’s job to decide whether the case has merit. The clerk takes your filing fee and stamps your papers, and off you go into the black, odiferous…
