Sure, you became a doctor, but look at what I’ve accomplished!

Dear Mimi,

I think it’s time we came clean and admitted to ourselves that there’s no friggin’ way we each read 1000 books over the summer of 1978.

First of all, let’s define the word “read”. I think everyone can agree that to “read” involves more than just slapping a library card on the counter and staggering out the door with a teetering tower of random books we pulled off the shelves and dumped into a corner of our bedroom until they were due back.

Oh, you actually read all of yours? Well, good for you. That’s probably why you actually did something with your life.

Yes, you became a doctor, but I became that most revered of all artistic professions — a blogger.

Sure, you save lives, but I give hundreds of people something to skim through while they sit on the toilet. Who’s the real hero?

And honestly, which one of us was smarter back then? The one who wasted an entire summer reading, probably damaging her eyes and cementing her nerd status…
