After All These Years, I Saw a Link to a Medium Article in a Major Magazine

Here’s what happened when I clicked on it

I read a lot about “The Lifestyle” (swinging), as one will when one’s husband has left one for a cam girl he met online. I’m eternally seeking some kind of explanation as to why men are simpletons who, like dinosaurs, have a brain in their penis.

Last night I stumbled on this story in The Atlantic that referenced a Medium article written by Chris Messina, “the inventor of the hashtag”.

I almost fell out of bed. Fortunately, the permanent dent in the 20-year-old mattress kept me safely in place.

I’ve been active here on Medium since around 2019, and I have never, ever, ever seen anyone in the real world make reference to or even mention a Medium article.

It’s like the chupacabra of the internet.

With very few exceptions (Michelle Teheux, I’m looking at you), Medium is not the place for journalism.

Medium is the place for funny stories about that time a møøse bit my sister, or deep-dives into Cobra (whatever that is), or entertainment news, which could have been huge here — huge — with the right support.
