A Quick Note About Tip Platforms Like Buy Me A Coffee

You’re missing one of its biggest benefits.

I read so much hate on here about tip platforms like Ko-fi and Buy Me A Coffee.

Sure, it felt weird the first time, asking strangers to give me money for no reason. But a good friend and supporter kept nagging me to do it and it’s been a big success.

(Problem #1: It’s not “for no reason”. Your writing is a commodity like any other. Getting paid through a tip platform is no different than getting a check in the mail from a publication.)

Oh my God, I just realized that “Ko-fi” is a play on “coffee”. Sometimes I’m a little slow.🙄

Anyway, I think the aspect of tipping that everybody’s missing is how good it makes you, the tipper, feel.

Clicking on a button and sending even a tiny amount of money to someone whose work you enjoy is no different than giving a friend a gift wrapped in ribbons and bows.

Giving gifts (or even just giving your time) feels good and can actually improve your health.

You’re making somebody else happy and you’re helping others. This releases endorphins in your brain that can give you a lift for as long as two hours.

It’s a win-win.
